Kawasaki Launches Autonomous Track Monitoring Pilot Program with CPKC

  • June, 2025

Kawasaki is pleased to announce the commencement of pilot testing for our locomotive-mounted autonomous track geometry monitoring system with Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC). The testing program commenced on May 1st, 2025, marking another significant milestone in our commitment to advancing rail safety and maintenance technology.

Our innovative system, which is mounted on the locomotive carbody, enables high-frequency and high-volume data collection during regular freight operations at speeds up to 80 mph. This cutting-edge technology has already demonstrated its reliability through successful implementations with railroads in North America over the past 4 years, accumulating over 1,800,000 miles of track monitoring data.

As a solution designed specifically for the North American market, our system seamlessly operates across both Canadian and Mexican rail networks. The collected track data is processed through Kawasaki's advanced data infrastructure, delivering near-real-time insights to support efficient maintenance planning.

The pilot program with CPKC will showcase our system's ability to provide continuous, accurate track condition monitoring without interrupting regular operations. This collaboration represents another step forward in Kawasaki's mission to revolutionize track maintenance through innovative technology solutions.
